Evaluating Our news day project

In the school report project, I helped with both directing and my special feature on mental illness in teenagers. Even though i didn't finish the project, I will be finishing it hopefully soon and putting it on youtube. I helped people, like Callum, with their project by going through and checking their report before they recorded it.

My favourite part of the project had to be choosing the images to go with my report, because it was fun to see all the different art and ideas that people suffering from mental illnesses had created to spread awareness.

My least favourite part of the project had to be choosing what to do my report on, because i couldn't think of anything interesting to me that might be interesting to someone watching the news.

The skills I think I have learned in this time are how to edit videos more and also how to organise an interview and write a report on the news.

I've learned that not everything that someone will work on will make it into the news, but maybe used later on on a slow news day.

If i was to do it again differently, I would probably try and improvise an interview earlier on to stop problems happening later on down the line.

And one of the most renowned ages that seems to suffer from mental illness are teenagers. according to a recent study, out of 30,000 students aged 14-15, one in 3 girls suffered from anxiety or depression. It had also been noted that the rate of anxiety and depression in males had dropped since 2005. The reason why teenagers may suffer from such mental illnesses as anxiety and depression, which may be due to the pressures of everyday life and exams, as well as drama from peers and friends. However, with teenagers suffering from mental illnesses comes the problem of distinguishing it from normal teenage behaviour. That's why it's always best to speak to someone if you ever feel like you may be suffering from a mental illness. Another reason teenagers may begin to suffer from mental illnesses could be from pressures online as the ideal figures of girls and boys are constantly being shared and liked as well as broadcasted straight to a teenager's homepage. And now here is an interview with ___, a teenager suffering from ____.

Normal teenagers are often moody due to hormonal and physical changes that happen during puberty. However, when mental illness is involved, it may be difficult to differentiate “normal teenage behaviour” from the symptoms of depression, anxiety and other emotional difficulties. Along with the teenage years comes drama.

The younger viewers are, the more likely they identify with YouTube stars more than TV/movie stars with an astounding 59% of 13 year olds following them on social media vs. only 32% for TV/Movie stars.
  • In a recent study by Variety magazine, 6 out of the top 10 influencers for 13-18 year olds were YouTube stars
  • Both YouTube and TV/Movie stars scored well for aspirational traits like “has unique talents” or “someone I look up to”
  • YouTube stars were more often described with traits that show high relatability like “just like me” or “someone I trust”
  • 1,000 views –> 150 views of people completing the ad
    $.18 per view x 150 views = $27 charged to advertiser
$27 advertiser charge x 68% revenue share = $18 paid to content creator per 1,000 views
