1) Name the organisations that regulate these forms of media:
- Film - The British Board of Film Classification
- TV & Radio - Ofcom
- Advertising - The Advertising Standards Authority
- Newspapers & Magazines - Independent Press Standards Organisation
- Video Games - Video Standards Council
2) What is a Post Modernist Film?
Post modernistic films usually have these qualities about them:
1) They will challenge genre conventions, sometimes even being more then one genre. This could be by having the main character not get the girl at the end or to have the 'princess type character. to be incredibly strong and sometimes even better then the hero themselves! An example of this is how in the lego movie Wildstyle is incredibly kick ass and -at the beginning of the movie at least- stronger then the main hero, Emmet!
2)They are pastiche, which means they either imitate other texts or show a humorous side to society/ culture. The lego movie is like this by showing how the people in the main city area all listen to rules and buy overpriced coffe and do everything the 'rule books' tell them to. This is making fun of how society sticks to the rules to the point where everyone is virtually the same person, and by making the lego citizens unaware of this, helps show that we too are blind to whats going on behind the scenes.
3) They all are hyper realistic, this is when a movie makes the audience aware that they are watching a movie, this could be by fourth wall breaking or hinting at the fact this is a movie without actually doing so, an example of this for example could be: 'Oh isn't odd how whenever we have a problem some weird thing happens to come along that fixes it?' -this is hinting- or, 'Oh hey sorry to pause the film but I have to tell you something'. -this is fourth wall breaking-.
4) An example of a quote about postmodernism is 'Postmodernism questions what is real and what is absolute' -Palmer 2014

1) Explain why the Tv advertising campaign was so successful:
The tv advertising campaign that the Lego movie used to advertise the film was incredibly successful because it knew how to reach out to the target audience of the film and what time would be best to catch that target audience. The time of the campaign is one of the reasons why its clear that time warner knew its target audience well, as they did the ad break in between strictly come dancing, which is on around the time when families would be settling down to watch tv together, meaning the adverts they used would have been able to successfully reach all the members of the family since they would have been awake still. The adverts that were featured were, cpr, premier in, Brian the robot and BT broadband. For example kids would have recognised Brian from the adverts would have been excited to see him made of one of their favorite toys. They would have stayed to watch the whole set of adverts because of this which means that they would have seen the trailer at the end for the movie and would have probably asked them to go and see it because it seemed funny or interesting.
Wk1: shows understanding of regulators and excellent understanding of Postmodernism.
