Television Industries: Ownership 
L/O: To explore the history of ownership in two key channels.

In the Uk the term "Public service broadcasting" refers to broadcasting which is intended for the public benefit rather then just for commercial concern. 
In the Uk, the BBC is the main PSB channel. 
Because they are funded by the public, the BBC have to meet the PSB PERMIT in terms of the genre variety, audiences, representation and quality of programme they reproduce.

They must follow:
*They have to provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage in the world around them. 
*To support learning for all ages. 
*To show the most creative, highest quality and distinctive output and services  
*To reflect, represent and serve the diverse communities of all the UK's nations and regions.
*Have to reflect the Uk, it's culture and values to the world. 

The BBC's mission statement is: "To inform. entertain and educate."
The BBC generate's income by selling their programmes to over seas, sell their shows as box sets and more. 



Commercial Institutions:
They generally have no guaranteed income (even ITV etc) therefore it is essential they are profitable. They can generate income by:
*Subscription
*Pay per View
*Sponsorship 
*Advertising 
*Product placement
