Version two of my shootout poster:

In this version of my poster i have made the title bolder and changed it so that it haas not got a gradient. I have also added in the new version of Callum's photo which makes my poster look much more realistic and improves the overall look of it.

Western Poster DIRT

Western Poster DIRT

To improve my movie poster I could think about the placement of my text by moving the Title down to the  bottom of the page, however it may cover up part of the main photo. This could cause an issue but perhaps by moving the main image up I could make it work well. I think I should make the Title bolder and not gradient because it blends into the background too much. So perhaps having  it a solid colour may help to fix my poster. I could add a review to my movie perhaps to add to the realism.

Media Language- Camerawork

Wednesday the 8th of November 2017

Media Language- Camerawork
L/O: to explore different camera shots, angles and movements and why they might be used

Camera work covers 4 areas:
Shot size:

point of view shot:
Over the shoulder shot: They are normally used in moving images to show conversation
Birdseye view or an aerial view:

Establishing shot`: They are always at the beginning of the scene of a movie to show the setting . Usually a ELS, LS, WS, BEV

Close up: It was used to show who the character was played by in the film, that is why it is a close up on their face so that you know who their character is.

Long shot: This is to show off the backgrounds in this movie perhaps and top show a journey that is occurring in the scene perhaps. Or maybe to add tension nearer the end of the trailer.

Mid shot: This is to show that he is the main character of the film and that something serious could be going on in the film.

Camera Angles:
Low and high Angle shot. Low could show strength power and size. A high Angle shot shows weakness and vulnerability.

High Angle Shot:

Low Angle Shot:

Canted Angle/ Tilt: They are used to show either something not being right, or to show movement.

Low Angle:

Camera Movement:
Track- Camera moves completely to the left or right following a character
Pan- Camera pivots left or right
Tilt- Camera pivots up or down
Crane- Camera moves up or down
Dolly- camera moves in/ out from subject
Zoom- Camera zooms in and out of a subject

Depth of field: Depth of field means which part of the picture is in focus.
Deep focus = Everything is in focus
Shallow Focus= Only one thing is in focus used to direct the audiences attention.
Focus Pull- when the shot stays the same but the focus changes

Shallow focus

Deep focus

Media institutions and audiences

Friday the 13th of October 2017

Media institutions and audiences
LO: to apply theoretical framework to media texts

Institutions:

Who makes what and for whom. The owners, companies and people to produce, distribute and govern media.

---------------------------------------------
  • Film Company/ studios
  • TV Box office
  • Entertainment, sports and news company
  • Videogames, and consumer products.
  • Live theatre
  • Animation Company
  • DC Comics

Big media companies like Disney and Time Warner have an advantage over small companies because unlike small companies which need to give part of their profit to other studios, they get the profit from the film almost ENTIRELY because they OWN everything they need to produce a film, for example Disney can make the soundtrack published as well as the advertising for a new film, then have it put in a cinema they own, which only leaves some things that need other companies to help with and take some of the profit away. Already they are making much more money over smaller companies who need to share out their profit in order to have their film seen.

It is important to know who owns the media companies we consume because certain people may have a bias towards one thing and only say/ make one statement about it (which may not actually be the truth) meaning if you only read say the sun you will believe that what they say is true no matter what it is.
'YOUNG CHILDREN CAUSE A RIOT'
May instantly make adults and elders who don't know about bias scared of any children they see on the street, when actually it could only be two teenagers who pushed a bin over last Tuesday!!

Media Audiences

The people who watch, read, listen to and interact with the media. Can be defined by:
  • Gender
  • Age
  • Interests
  • Lifestyle
  • Location/ Nationality
  • Class
  • Ethnicity
  • Sexuality
  • Job/ Income
I think the target audience for this film are:
  • men in their 20's because everyone on the poster are male and look around that age. The theme for the poster is an adult theme, being hungover.
  • People who enjoy comedy because the style of the poster makes it seem comical and funny.

Wednesday the 18th of October 2017

This poster is clearly directed towards the teen audience because the girls in the movie poster all around 18, they clearly look like they go to high school and the title is something that links to groups of girls you can find at any secondary or high school.

This is a movie poster clearly aimed at male audiences since the biggest photo on the poster is a man, and that everyone in the poster seem to be ready for some kind of battle with swords which are stereotypicaly male weapons.
Life is strange is a game that upon first glance could easily be described as a game for the female audience with a female main character who likes photography and goes to collage

The Theoretical Framework

Friday the 6th of October 2017
The Theoretical Framework
L/O: To apply the Theoretical Framework to media texts.

It is four major concepts, or ideas, which form the basis of the subject content:

  • media language
  • media institutions
  • media audiences
  • media representations

Media Language

It includes:
  • Camerawork
  • Soundtrack
  • Mise-en-scene
  • Editing
  • A long camera shot has been used as the main image even if it is a drawing and not a real person because you can see all of them.
  • The background is a very calm, relaxing colour and is similar to the girl in the photos leggings.
  • The right side of the title is Serif compared to the left side which is a thin bold which shows that the magazine could be more directed towards teenage girls.
  • Because there is only one cover line, this helps to show the magazines calm and relaxing nature.

Photoshop Skills Task

Friday the 29th of September 2017

Photoshop Skills Task:

L/O: To explore and develop creative techniques in Photoshop

Task: To create a movie poster for a new horror film.

Information to include:

  • Title (normally at the bottom of the poster).
  • Release date or coming soon under the title.
  • Either names of the main actors (two or three) or the director at the top, normally if they are famous thanks to another movie.
  • Main image
  • The credit block at the very bottom
  • Famous tagline
My horror poster:
WWW: I have edited it well and the choice of horror font has worked well with the colour popped background.
NTT: I could include the credit block and the director who created it or actors who star in it, I could choose better colours for the poster title.

Www: The photo's i have chosen are clear and good quality which matches up to the photo I took well. I posed well which helped me to fit the photos on.

Next Time Target: To blend the colours of the photo together to help make it look more realistic and not like i had cut it out from a a magazine and stuck it onto my photo. Maybe add more to my face too.

The Impact of Media

Friday the 8th of September
L/O: To discuss what media is and how it impacts our lives

Definition of Media: "The main means of mass communication"

Types of Media:

  • Apps
  • Films
  • Social media like Facebook
  • Video games
  • Tv shows
  • Magasines
  • Newspapers
  • Websites
  • Podcasts
  • Radio
  • Advertisement
  • Email
  • Ebooks
The main purpose of ALL media is to make money.

Media Influence

The media influences you by only showing a certain opinion on things like politics and fashion which will make you dress a certain way or act a certain way. They usually only show the bad in the news and newspapers because bad things sell and good things don't. This is powerful because it means everyone has a certain opinion CREATED for them instead of making their own unless they look at more positive things. Because of this the elderly may have a negative opinion on Homosexuals and other types of 'new' relationships that are occurring today. This is also because of newspapers broadcasting only the bad about two men or women marrying. Some Media is good though, because it is more honest and will spread good messages around like loving all religion. For an example on websites like Tumblr posts about equal rights are everywhere meaning the younger generation will be more positive about some things. A game like this has been created where you take photos of things and people in the game act that way Until they end up killing each other over one photo taken. This game is called 'we become what we behold'.

Audience

L/O: To identify how a media text targets a specific audience.
Image result for pad advertisement for teensthis is obviously a teenager poster because its about a problem that girls have as they go through puberty.
Movie trailer for female adults
I think this movie poster is aimed at female adults because for one the women in the photo are all older and the theme seems to be about marriage problems, it could be a comedy chick flick that women might enjoy watching with their friends.
Image result for call of duty poster
Game poster for teenage boys.
I think this game is aimed at teenage boys because it has guns and a war like theme to it, which the media says is what boys like at that age. The man looks older and it looks like a shooter game.
